She's here!! Around 4pm today we were delivered a little baby girl that seriously looks like a Chinese doll in the "It's A Small World" ride at Disney World. She is so precious. She seems real content and LOVES to suck her thumb. She has a hard grip on her thumb and is not real fond of letting it go! Having had a baby and then adopting a baby I can say that this was the strangest feeling. The Orphanage Director and an official from the orphanage came to our room and brought her to us. They brought us a gift for her which was very sweet. It is little necklace with a silver charm on it. It was really indescribable to just suddenly be handed this child that is yours that we are responsible for that we know so little about. And to then to be instantly in love with her. She has a head full of hair and has more by a long shot than any other baby we have seen being adopted here. We asked some questions about her and have gotten some of our answers. We learned that she has been in foster care most of her life and that she probably was taken to the orphanage only a few days ago. She had some tummy problems yesterday and they felt like she was better, but she is still having some trouble. She is having some bad diapers and then she threw up all over the bed, but we can handle it. She ended up getting her first bath very soon due to her accident all over the bed. So I laid her on the sink on top of a few towels and gave her a sponge bath and she did OK. I washed her hair last just to make sure she could handle it and wow does she have a bunch of hair. We are taking pictures as much as possible, but we have been busy figuring out how to manage all the baby stuff in a hotel room. Plus a few hours after getting her we had to go fill out a stack of paperwork so it has been a busy day! Take a look at the first pictures!
Before our darling came we ate some breakfast at the buffet in the lobby area around 10 am and then met up with our group. It was nice to see familiar faces and we of course had plenty to talk about with the babies coming early! Hellen our guide met us there where we all took a 10 minute walk to the market. That was an experience in and of itself. One thing we have noticed in China that is different is the customer service. There are always many workers standing around just ready to help you everywhere you go. We always need help, but have to use our guide to ask for help because few people speak enough English to understand our needs. The store was 2 levels and the shelves were packed and the place was packed. It was wall to wall people and the music was very loud. Steve took a tour of the meat department, that was a smelly experience. There meat is not as fresh as ours which is a little concerning since we are eating it! They had ducks just hanging from strings. Quite a bit different. Just walking through you could find things that you recognized just due to the colors, but everything was in Chinese of course. You have never seen so many flavors of Lays potato chips like chicken flavored. On the way back from the market the other ladies in our group had been here a few days and had learned they could get a foot massage. So they convinced me to go along while the men went back to the hotel with our items from the market. We went into the place expecting a 15 minute foot massage or maybe 30 minutes and was told it would be an hour massage. We almost didn't do it because it seemed overkill and the other girls had to take showers before the babies came. Not surprisingly, they convinced us to go ahead and it was heavenly. We were all in the same room the size of a small bedroom and three very young girls. After all was said and done it ended up being an almost full body massage. It was wonderful. I was already dressed for the day so we just organized the room a bit and I blogged a little bit after returning. But I really had a hard time keeping my mind in the right gear. I just kept feeling so nervous and excited and experienced lots of butterflies in my stomach. We were actually 2 doors down at the Rosson's filming while they had their first few moments with their new addition when Anna Claire arrived. It was a wonderful moment.
She is so beautiful! I know you guys are absolutely in love...
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I'm totally jealous of your foot massage. (That's the last thing we did around 11 p.m. the night before we left!)
